Helping kids learn and play on Founder's Day

With this year marking the 40th anniversary of the RE/MAX brand around the world, local Southern Africa offices commemorated the occasion on 30 January, known as RE/MAX Founder’s Day, by collecting toys and books for various charities, crèches and orphanages that operate in their community. This was a momentous occasion that marked the first initiative of the newly founded RE/MAX Foundation, a non-profit organisation aimed to uplift underprivileged communities and families in need.

“The response from the public was remarkable and a large volume of toys and books were collected by the regional offices and distributed to the organisations that they nominated to support,” says Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa and director of the RE/MAX Foundation. “A number of children were able to benefit from this initiative due to the fact that the public gave to the project so generously. Although this is the first campaign which was administered by the RE/MAX Foundation, it certainly won’t be the last. We aim to have an ongoing impact on the communities that require our help within the areas in which RE/MAX of Southern Africa operates. This is a central part of the RE/MAX Formula – the company’s operating philosophy – which states that we don’t just work in a community, we live there too.

He notes that some of the beneficiaries around the country that received toys and books from the campaign were:

  • Ellis Ras (Lephalale) - Africa Family Care Children’s Home, Japsnoetjie Nursery School
  • Pretoria - Helping Hand
  • Johannesburg - Siphumelele, Diepsloot Community Centre, Impilo Children’s Home
  • Walmer - Eluvuyweni Creche
  • Langebaan - Butterfly Creche, Beacon Church
  • Nelspruit - Dasha School for the Disabled
  • Cape Town - Durbanville Children’s Home, Heaven’s Nest
  • Plettenberg Bay - Masizame Childrens Home, Born in Africa

“The launch of the RE/MAX Foundation will allow RE/MAX of Southern Africa to co-ordinate future projects and support worthy causes through our corporate social investment initiatives. The goal of the foundation will be to focus on the youth in particular and empower, promote and encourage them to be the best that they can be. The upliftment of the South African youth will ensure sustainability of the country in the future, as what we do today will impact what happens tomorrow and in the days to come,” Goslett concludes.
