Latest statistics from ooba, South Africa’s biggest bond originator, continue to reflect positive year-on-year price growth, up 3.4 percent (minus 2.5 percent when taking inflation of 5.9 percent into account) in March this year (R903,922) compared to March 2012 (R874,228).

However, the average house price is 0.5 percent (minus 5.4 percent when taking inflation of 5.9 percent into account) down on February 2013. Read more in Property remains in doldrums

In Property owners warned: Just two weeks left to lodge valuation objections, we learn that there's still a little time left for property owners from the Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth metros to lodge objections to the new municipal valuations of their properties – and it’s really important that they do so if they believe these to be wrong as the rates that the city or town council charges are based on that valuation.

With the current economic climate in South Africa Businesses are forced to take judgement against consumers in order to recover outstanding debt, this has resulted in more consumers being listed with credit bureaus.
