FROM THE EDITOR

In the news this week was the National Budget Speech by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Berry Everitt, MD of the Chas Everitt International property group says Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has done well to produce a Budget that is positive for property under difficult national and global economic circumstances.

Lew Geffen, chairman of Sotheby’s International Realty in SA, says Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s Budget achieves a good balance of spending on SA’s most urgent needs.

Rudi Botha, CEO of BetterBond, says that here are two especially positive items in the budget. The first being tax relief proposed for companies which are able to provide home loans, housing assistance or actual houses to their employees and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s commitment to engage with the banking sector to explore ways of increasing the level of mortgage lending

Jan Davel, MD of the RealNet estate agency group, has mixed feelings about the Budget, but welcomes the positive approach to affordable housing revealed, with the provision to build more than 400 000 low-income houses over the next three years in addition to the 2,7 million homes already provided by the Department of Housing since 1994.
