Org Geldenhuys, from Abacus DIVISIONS, says in Listed property stocks are doing well that all is not doom and gloom for the overall property market as South Africa’s listed property sector seems to be continuing its recovery, with property stocks outperforming most other stocks on the stock exchange.

Some more good news is that SA’s commercial property sector is forecast to pick up, this according to Francois Viruly, a property economist and professor at the department of construction economics and management at UCT. He also said that historical trends suggested the local property sector experienced a property boom about every 10 years with significant construction booms every 20 years.

John Loos, FNB Household and Consumer Sector Strategist, says that due to the current economic conditions fewer people are able to purchase a home and that leads to more people who are looking to rent, in an effort to avoid the costs associated with owning a property. This is boosting the rental markets across the country. Read more in Rental market – good for investment?
