It has been estimated by The National Treasury that 4.5 billion rand ($518 million) of platinum and gold mining production was lost as at the middle of September 2012, and 118 million rand of coal due to the mining strikes. Unfortunately the mining strikes’ ripple effect doesn’t end there. All the industries, including property are being affected as well. According to South African Commercial Property News, Redefine Properties has launched its American depository receipt (ADR) programme‚ making it the first property company in South Africa to launch an ADR programme on the over-the-counter (OTC) market in the US.
