Built on a hillside sloping towards the sea, the town of Plettenberg Bay is located almost on the border of the Western and Eastern Cape. Originally named Bahia Formosa, which means beautiful bay, the town has a very long history considering that Portuguese explorers regularly visited the area and charted the bay during the 15th and 16th centuries.
